SUZ2 — Special Use Zone

What the SUZ2 zone means in Victoria, and which councils in our corpus map it. This is a plain-language summary of published material — it is not planning advice and it decides nothing about any particular site.

A purpose-built zone for a specific non-standard use — racecourses, quarries, institutions, major venues — with the rules written in the schedule.

Built form

Entirely schedule-driven: each SUZ schedule defines its own permit triggers and built-form rules.

Typically allowed

  • The specific use(s) nominated in the schedule

What is allowed on a particular site depends on the council’s schedule to this zone and any overlays. Check the scheme; we make no determination.

Typically not allowed

  • Uses outside the schedule’s purpose (generally prohibited)

What to look at

Read the numbered schedule (e.g. SUZ3) — it is effectively a custom mini-scheme for the site, and conventional residential use is often not available.

Councils that map SUZ2

This list covers the councils in our corpus only. A council we hold no data for may also map SUZ2 — we simply cannot say.

This page reports what is mapped in published VIC planning data, as we last synced it on 23 May 2026. It is general information, not planning advice, and it makes no assessment of any proposal. Whether an approval is needed, and what a council decides, are matters for the responsible authority — check the council’s own planning scheme and contact them directly.
